A GUIDE TO THE QUALIFICATION
The Level 3 Applied General Award for Early Years, Childcare and Education enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of child development, education, and care, which will allow them to progress to study in further education, higher education or join the workplace as an apprentice. This qualification is the equivalent, in size and rigour, to that of an AS level.
In this qualification learners will develop an understanding of: • diverse childcare settings and the role of the childcare professional • roles, responsibilities, skills, and attributes for working in childcare settings • types and functions of childcare services • significant milestones and relevant theories related to human development.

To be awarded the Level 3 Applied General Certificate for Early Years, Childcare and Education, learners must achieve a minimum of a Pass in the 5 mandatory units and the 2 external synoptic assessments
All units for the Level 3 Applied General Award for Early Years, Childcare and Education will be internally assessed using a variety of methods.
Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
A GUIDE TO THE QUALIFICATION
This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. The qualification covers elements including children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare, and communication and professional relationships.
The aim of this qualification is to focus on the study of the supporting teaching and learning, offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge, provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.
This qualification provides learners with knowledge and skills needed to work in a school or college environment, provide a stepping stone into further learning within the sector.

| Placement: As learners need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, they will need to be working or be on a practical placement during the duration of the taught programme of study, in a learning environment (school or college). It is recommended that the learner undertakes 100 hours of placement in a real work environment. |

This qualification is designed for learners who want to study health and social care at a higher level. Applied General qualifications are designed to be rigorous, advanced qualifications that enable learners to develop subject-specific and transferable skills, which facilitate their progression on to higher learning.
It aims to focus on the applied study of health and social care, offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a significant core of knowledge and theoretical content with broad-ranging applicability.

Placement:
Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours are 75 hours As placement is a crucial element of the learner's journey. Progression:
Upon achievement of this qualification learners will be able to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. The Certificate supports learners’ access to Higher Education and progression into a wide range of job roles within the health and social care sector. The qualification also supports progression to further learning in related subject areas at Level 4 and above.
This qualification does not provide a licence to practise, but may support progression into a wide range of job roles in the health and social care sector, including:
Roles
- Care Support Workers in adult residential settings
- Healthcare Assistants in community, primary care and acute health environments
- Care Support Workers in domiciliary services, supported living or day services
- Community-based Support Workers
Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health
A GUIDE TO THE QUALIFICATION
This qualification is designed to increase learners knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental well-being. Successful completion of the required units will allow the learner to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health. It will also support progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.
