Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings
A GUIDE TO THE QUALIFICATION

The Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings has been designed to support learners as they develop their knowledge, understanding and skills when caring for and supporting the learning and development of children aged 0–11 years.

The qualification is made up of units and a Professional Skills Record. It is designed to support learners to progress onto Level 3 qualifications across several sectors, such as Early Years Education, Supporting Teaching and Learning, and Children and Young People. It includes significant transferable knowledge for the Health and Social Care sector.

It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships.

Duration: 13 weeks
Delivery: Blended classroom and online learning Available
Placement: This qualification has a minimum requirement of 120 work placement hours.

  • The role of the childcare practitioner

PROGRESSION:

On completion of this qualification, you can progress on to any Level 2 qualifications within our Early Years, Children and Young People, Supporting Teaching and Learning, and Health and Social Care suites.

You can also progress in the workplace in job roles as:

  • Classroom Assistant
  • Preschool Assistant

Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning
A GUIDE TO THE QUALIFICATION

The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships. It is aimed at learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

Duration: 6-9 months
Delivery: Blended classroom and online learning Available
Placement: Learners will need to be working or on a practical placement for the duration of the course in a learning environment School or college as they need to show competence in both skills and knowledge.

Progression:

Learners can progress onto the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or into the workforce.

LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE FOR THE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE'S WORKFORCE
A GUIDE TO THE QUALIFICATION

This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in social care and learning and development support services from birth to 19 years of age.

It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s environments. It is suitable for those who wish to work or are working in a supervised role in the Children and Young People’s Workforce in England.

Duration: 6 -9 Months
Delivery: Blended classroom and online learning Available
Placement: For learners who have no previous experience of working with children and young people, it is recommended that 200 hours be spent in a Real Work Environment.
Unit Covered: To complete the certificate learners must achieve a minimum of 35 credits. 29 credits will come from the 11 mandatory units listed below the remaining 6 credits can be achieved from a choice of 16 optional units.
  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

Progression:

This qualification provides a direct progression route to the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce as they share a number of units.

Learners could also progress to the following job roles:

  • Assistant pre-school workers
  • Assistants in children’s centres
  • Assistants in day nurseries, nursery schools and nursery classes in primary schools

Level 2 Certificate Introducing Caring for Children and Young People
A GUIDE TO THE QUALIFICATION

This qualification will give learners a basic understanding of childcare and education, parenting and babysitting. It will also help them to make an informed choice about working with children and young people. All the units are optional, giving greater flexibility to learners and Tutors when deciding on a programme of study and maximising learner achievement.

Duration: 6 -9 months
Delivery: Blended classroom and online learning Available
Placement: Learners do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to complete this qualification as it is knowledge only.
Units: All of the units are optional which allows greater flexibility to learners and tutors when deciding on a programme of study - maximising learner achievement.

Progression:

On completion of the Certificate learners can progress to the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce qualification. There is the opportunity to achieve two Award-sized qualifications (Level 2 Award in Babysitting and Level 2 Award in Preparation for the Responsibilities of Parenting) on the way to completing the Certificate and to progress to a Diploma if more learning is required. This offers the opportunity to be certificated for four qualifications in total.

Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care
A GUIDE TO THE QUALIFICATION

This qualification aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of core subject areas in health and social care to support progression to further learning or the workplace.

Duration: 6 -9 months
Delivery: Blended classroom and online learning Available
Placement: Learners are not required to attend placement in a Real Work Environment. However, 30 hours or more of work placement is recommended in order to support their learning.

Progression:

Upon achievement of this qualification, learners will be able to progress onto the Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. The Certificate supports progression to further learning, or to employment within the health and social care sector.
